The Tertiary Preparation Program is designed for overseas students planning to enrol in a University, Technical College or other Tertiary Institution, particularly at an under-graduate level in the fields of Health Care, Humanities, Business, Information Technology and Accounting.

The Tertiary Preparation Program focuses upon increasing skills for academic study in English, and extending students’ abilities for such study.

 

Course Objectives

  • To develop skills and strategies appropriate for independent learning in an Australian tertiary institutional setting.
  • To extend skills and strategies in speaking, understanding and listening to English in academic contexts as well as social contexts.
  • To learn to write in English for specific course purposes. To prepare and write assignments, paraphrasing and referencing, summaries, essays, reports, and examination answers.
  • To improve academic reading skills and to improve reading speed and comprehension.
  • To prepare students for tertiary study by introducing them to computer literacy and academic settings.
  • To extend learners’ understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural differences and to enable them to use language to increase their understanding and communication abilities in those contexts.

Students will need to choose their preferred elective stream after completion of all the core subjects.  Students can choose to study in a Health Care, Humanities, Business, Information Technology or Accounting stream.
