Experiential Learning

Experiential (EX) Learning is the process of learning through active participation and engagement in direct experiences, either supervised or self-directed, within a formally approved and structured learning framework.

It bridges academic theory with practical application, enabling students to apply, practice, and reflect on knowledge and skills in real-world or simulated environments.

EX Learning at APC operates through two main models & APC Connect:

1. Worked-Based Learning (WBL):

• Learning that occurs in real work environments through participation in authentic work activities, projects and interactions.
• It is embedded in the curriculum and can involve deliberate engagement with work experiences for learning purposes and may include the formal recognition of competencies achieved through those experiences (eg. apprenticeships and traineeships, and placements).  
• The workplace plays the central role in organising and enacting the learning.
• The workplace complements scheduled training and learning such as LiveStream Lectures and tutorials.
• Assessments will remain unchanged and continue to be conducted independently by APC to determine course progress.

2. ProjectBase is APC's own Project-Based Learning (PBL) or commonly referred as Work Integrated Learning (WIL): 

• Intentionally connecting academic theory with practical work projects, case studies and experiences within the curriculum.
• Projects form a part of the assessments and teachers/trainers play a key role in organising and enacting the learning (eg. Simulations, Projects and Practicums).
• Projects supplement training and learning (in addition to LiveStream Lectures and tutorials). 
• Assessments are embedded in projects and course progress is dependent on successful project completion.

What is APC Connect?

APC Connect is an exciting and contemporary set of activities and events designed to help you build confidence, strengthen your skills and make meaningful connections while you study at APC.

APC campuses will host customised events tailored for you to access local industry and peer-networking opportunities.  From interactive workshops and guest speaker sessions to social events and immersive excursions!

Through these interactive, campus-based sessions, you will have opportunities to apply and reflect on what you learn in class, further build upon your existing skills, and receive extra support and develop skills that will help you succeed in your studies and future career.

APC Connect activities may include:

• Practical workshops in writing, presentations, teamwork and communication

• Targeted assessment support from APC trainers

• AI workshops to help you use technology effectively and responsibly

• Industry talks, business visits and real-world learning activities

• Develop and access entrepreneurial and financial opportunities 

• Networking sessions with students, staff and industry guests

• Collaborative projects, exciting challenges and campus events
